PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Legislative and Case Law Update
The instructor will provide an overview of recent legislative changes and court decisions that may affect your responsibilities in civil process work.
Sales and Redemptions
A comprehensive look at lien sales, execution sales involving real and personal property, abandoned property sales, judgment and decree sales, and mortgage foreclosure by advertisement. The session will also address common challenges and legal issues Sheriffs' Offices encounter in the context of foreclosure sales and redemption procedures.
Levy Procedures
An in-depth examination of the full range of collection tools available to the Sheriff, along with guidance on the proper forms required for each remedy.
Additional Remedies
Coverage of court-ordered remedies including District Court seizure orders, attachment orders, and replevin orders issued by Conciliation Court.
Each participant will receive an updated Civil Process Manual featuring step-by-step instructions and more than 100 legal forms essential for executing a wide variety of collection remedies.
Featured Presenter: Rod Nelson retired from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office with over 23 years of service, concluding his career as a captain in the Civil Process Division. He also practiced law with the firm Lommen, Nelson, Stageberg & Cole, P.A., where he served as director of its training subsidiary, Comprendium. Rod now leads Law Enforcement Training Services, LLC (LETS), an organization dedicated to providing high-quality training and consulting services to law enforcement and related professionals. LETS offers both direct instruction and seminars throughout Minnesota. A frequent lecturer, Rod has presented for the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Minnesota Institute of Legal Education, and the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association, and has taught at Minneapolis Community and Technical College and Concordia University. He has also authored legislation in the areas of debtor-creditor law, landlord-tenant law, domestic abuse, and other legal issues relevant to the civil process responsibilities of sheriffs.
